Our Isolation Immersion (Isomersion) is 24 hour per day intensive cultural and language training. In some cases, immersion training is requested for languages indigenous to countries with which the US has no formal relations or for situations when the current political or economic situation would make it impossible orimpractical to conduct an in-country immersion. In cases such as these, in-country immersion may not be possible.
REEP has made provisions for immersion training for these languages by creating cells suitable for language training. These programs are called Isolation Immersion training or Isomersion training.
Isomersion programs are short duration, intensive, language and cultural training programs that are conducted in an accessible isolated environment. Cells of immersion training are created in non-indigenous environments. With this type of training, students and instructors are sequestered in an isolated environment with few distractions. REEP's Isomersion programs provide target language materials and include an additional amount of video, audio and written materials to help
simulate the target language environment.
The training provided for our Isomersion programs is similar to that of the in-country language immersion program with a few variations to account for the difference in locations. Isomersion training consists of more hours per week of classroom instruction than in-country language programs.
Also our Isolation Immersion program includes about 20 hours per week of cultural events/training are conducted outside the classroom. REEP coordinates and supplies room and board to the participants. The student-teacher ratio for our Isomersion programs does not exceed six to one. As with REEP's immersion training, isomersion training can be geared to students at all ability levels. Isomersion programs have proven to be particularly effective for students with no background in the target language.
